I cannot stress this enough. I just went to SDR, and while the first couple of my days were pretty good, I became extremely ill on the third day of the trip.

When we got back last week, I was not really feeling well enough to mess around with calling my TA and all that to tell her what had happened. I finally did get around to it on Monday, and she reminded me I had purchased Travel Insurance. I usually do buy it as a matter of course, in case something happens prior to the trip, and we are unable to go. Turns out it covers you if you get sick on vacation as well.

Now, that may have been common knowledge for some... but it floored me. Makes sense in retrospect, but still....

Anyway, it is looking like the insurance is going to cover my doctor bills while I was down there (my health ins has said no), which total nearly $500, and pay for three days minimally, and possibly 5 since thats when I started going to the doctor.

Looks like the vacation was not a total loss after all, and that $120 finally paid off!

Great advice , Pah.......it stinks that you got sick. Thanks for your informative review, though.

Sorry about your sickness partner but could you elaborate a bit more? Do you think it was food or water related? Could the water supplies have been contaminated during the hurricanes. I heading out in January and bringing my pepto bismal.

Read pah's trip review on this site...I think he eludes to the fact that a lady on the bus to the resort was coughing like she was on her deathbed, and he got whatever blasted thing she was suffering from. I do not think he was ill from the food or water.......

I am almost positive it was not from the food or water. Simply because others would have been sick as well.... and trust me, I spent enough time in the nurse office to see who was and was not coming there Smile.

I am also still moderately ill over a week later, and the doctors back home have said I simply have a really bad case of the flu.

Do not worry about the food or water at the resort, they have a lot of checks and balances in place to make sure you do not get sick. Frankly, it is in their best interest.

While I wouldn't prescribe the tequilla I have found that a prophylactic dose of pepto bismal seems to ward of any upset stomachs due to foods being left out possibly a little longer than normal and the normal vacation eat/drink in excess.

sorry that you got such a bad bug while on your trip Pah.
I am curious to know though, how equipped are the doctor facilities there in Jamaica? I suffer from extremely painful migraines...and try as I may to ward them off by taking my daily meds, and making sure I stay away from certain foods, there are times that I will get them regardless of what I do. I have had some concerns of what would happen to me if I did get one while there. I become violently ill at times, which can lead to dehydration, and the only way to stop the vomiting and the pain is an injection. I don't think it will happen while on a paradise vacation, but if it DID, I am wondering what kind of medical facilities are in Jamaica or at a Sandals resort???
I am not a worry-wart honestly!... just dotting my I's and crossing my T's.
Thanks!!
