Read on post that Stinkerbell went to this Iberostar.

Anyone have anything they can share about this resort? we are going in Jan 2005. Alsoo would like to take a couple tours of the area and maybe snorkle. Any suggestions would be helpful

Thanks

this resort is really great!!

will be there in August again...

For day tours: you definitely have to go to Chichén Itzá & Tulum! Both Mayan sites are really worth to visit!

Have fun!

We stayed at the Playa del Carmen Iberostar in November of 2001. As far as the resort goes, it is very nice. Lovely surroundings, nice rooms, incredible pool, great drinks. However, the food wasn't that great. I went with a group of 20 other people and everyone got sick at one point except for me and two others (luckily). If you could uproot the resort into somewhere in the US, it would be a no-brainer. Just watch what you eat...don't eat any raw vegetables (including salad).

Hi Jean, Don't have any worries about the resort, you will have a great time. Hubby and I have been there alone and twice with the kids. We will be there again in January with some other couples who havent been there yet. The people at the resort are truly wonderful people. If you make an effort and treat them with courtesy they will treat you like royalty. We have made some wonderful friends there.
The tours you have to be careful of, do not, I repeat, do not buy your tours thru the travel company. They get about 50% of the fee, the hotel gets a chunk, and then there is very little paid to those who run the tours. We always seemed to have someone passing a hat looking for tips. Which wouldn't be bad if we hadn't paid $75 to$150 a person for the tours. You can buy tickets thru the resort directly which is less expensive, or go to the front desk and ask them if they can help you. We have actually had the bell boys offer to take us on their day off. It costs peanuts to get in. Xelha was a lot of fun, Emilio's cenote dive is fantastic, dolphin discovery in Cancun was excellent but spend the money on the trainer for a day or you have to hang out at a very small water park after your encounter. There is a snorkeling tour that is on a "yacht" Laughing off of Cozumel. Very expensive and to be honest, it was a tugboat painted white and we were right next to the big cruise ships, not exactly the reef we were expecting. Horseback riding...... Confused WEAR PANTS! The horses are kinda sad and very much like the mules in the grand canyon but it is a nice time. Best dollar, was Emilio's and Xelha very natural and not so commercial. Don't forget to take advantage of the free shuttle into Playa and then you can catch the ferry to Cozumel and snorkel from there. I hope you have a wonderful time, if you have questions we will happily help you or direct you to people at the resort who can.

You are going to love it! I just got back 5 days ago and it was paradise. The hotel and grounds are beautiful. The people that work in the resort can't do enough for you. The beach was amazing. The buffets are great. We ate in the Japanese, Cajun, Gourmet, Steak and Italian restaurants. I would skip the Italian that wasn't very good but everything else was great. We also went horse back riding on the beach which was beautiful. I have already called the travel agent to go back next year with my kids. The weather was around 95 everyday sunshine.

The resort is excellent, this is a place to relax. When you arrive it is a good idea to make dinner reservations for every night of the week. You can always cancel. The trick is to get the time fram you want to ahve dinner . The Lindo has outstanding food and staff. I can not reccommend the horse back riding. The horses are half dead and some what wild (run when ever they what, stop , sitdown, run in to the jungle) The tour guids gallop along side of you and beat the horses. If that was in the USA the ranch would have been shut down. I also heard some horror strries about the swimming with dolphins. The water was dirty, the dolphons were unhealthy, they were kept in very small pens. I did not see this but was told by other guest. However the lindo is superior and there is very little reson to leave the resort. If you go to playa del carmen, be carefull with the shop keepers. They donot put prices on anything. Everything is negotiable. Its like buying a car, the first price offer you always reject. If you are a cigar smoker donot pay more than $9. .00 for aCuban cohiba. The hotel charges $30. .00. You can negotiate with locals down to $9. Jewelry is the same Negotiate everything.

Resort is amazing. As for snorkeling which we are big fans of - XelHa was amazing!!!!!!!!!!!! The best snorkeling we have done. We also did the Mayan Adventure tour which was good - snorkeling in underground caves, etc but not near as many fish. Resort if beautiful and we ate everything and did not get sick. hte Iberostar in Playa Del Carmen might be not as good food but worth the day trip there to check it out since you can use it in your deal. we just returned from our honeymoon in the mayan riv. wouldnt have been complete without our EMILIO'S ADVENTURE TOUR. this is a must do. we stayed for two weeks at our resort and spoke with many people who had been on other excursions and none were as good as our experience with Emilio's. often the people with whom we were comparing notes were disappointed that they hadnt done the cenote snorkel trip.
we were struggling to choose between emilio's cenote snorkeling and the mountain bike/repelling tour -after having spoken to a very disappointed patron of the repelling tour we were sure we had made the right decision.
enjoy!
i'd do it again in a heartbeat.

Stayed there last feb and loved it. However, our room was a two minute walk from the beach - the resort is long and narrow and we would not have been as happy if our room was at the far end. Grounds and hotel were beautiful. Spent a great day snorkeling in three different places - visit the tour guides for more information. Food was not fabulous but no complaints.
